Shaikha Salama Mosque, Al Ain
The newly reconstructed Shaikha Salama Mosque in the centre of Al Ain has changed the skyline and the idea of a traditional mosque. Designed by renowned Jordanian architect Jafar Tukan, it offers a contemporary interpretation of the traditional place of worship for Muslims.
With underground parking to help accommodate the 4,800 worshippers that the mosque will hold, it also features modern features including lifts and a high-tech air conditioning system. Quite unseen for most mosques.
Featuring modern lighting to accentuate the magnificent structure and detail throughout the building, parts of it replicate a modern western structure yet adapt the needs of a traditional mosque.
Without a doubt, it is most definitely the most iconic landmark now in Al Ain.
